Home Remedies - Preventative Measures for Healthier Looking Skin
With all of the products available to us on retailers’ shelves it may seem that we can simply “fix” anything wrong with our skin. That is true only a small portion of the time. Prevention is key when it comes to healthier skin. Not even make-up can conceal neglected skin. (Although it can sure enhance the ill effects of it!) The best home remedies for your skin may be in what you don’t do, as opposed to what you do.
For starters, listen to your mother. Don’t smoke, don’t drink caffeine, stay out of the sun and avoid excessive uses of alcohol. These agents dry and age the skin so that before you know it you’ll look in the mirror and ask yourself, “Where did my beauty go?”
Stick to a routine. I always marveled at my mother’s glowing skin. My mother was a creature of habit. She took a few minutes every night to wash and moisturize her face before bed. When she got up the following morning she repeated this process religiously. I credit her routine to the reason so many people thought we were sisters rather than mother and daughter.
Wear a hat in the sun. If you think you’re too cool for a hat, for crying out loud, use a sunscreen. That tan may look great at 20. But it will come back to haunt you when you’re 40. Did I say prevention? Perhaps I meant preservation. Preserve your skin by keeping it out of the harmful UV rays of the sun. You’ll look younger longer and your skin will thank you when it doesn’t look like leather when you’re 40.
Drink your water. The number of glasses you should drink each day is questionable, depending on which “expert” you listen to this week. A good rule of thumb is that if you’re thirsty reach of water as opposed to soda, tea or coffee. Your skin will take on a healthy glow as a result of this habit.
